Contract with Monaco expired
After Nottingham Forest and Fulham had reportedly been interested in July, 18-time France international Djibril Sidibé has found a new club in Greece. The 30-year-old joins AEK Athens following the end of his contract with AS Monaco. In the Greek capital, Sidibé receives a contract running until 2024. With a market value of €8 million, the right-back was one of the most valuable free agents on the market.
Denayer, Costa & Co. – The most valuable free agents
Sidibé had joined Monaco for €15 million from LOSC Lille in 2016 and went on to make 174 appearances for the Monegasques, scoring six goals and providing 23 assists. Having spent the 2019/20 season on loan at Everton, a return to the Premier League seemed to be a strong possibility for the defender this summer. In the end, Forest signed six other full-backs, most recently fellow free agent Serge Aurier, while Fulham strengthened their squad with Kevin Mbabu and Layvin Kurzawa.
At AEK, Sidibé becomes the most valuable player in the squad of head coach Matías Almeyda. The Greek top club, who last won the Super League in 2017/18 currently sit fourth after three match days.
