Bellerín & Co. for sale
Very few could deny that Arsenal have used this summer’s transfer window to make up for last season’s failed attempt to finish in the top four of the Premier League. After a frustrating campaign which saw Mikel Arteta’s side finish fifth, while losing a number of key players in January and June, the north London club have spent more than €130 million on new players.
White, Pepe, Aubameyang & Co. – Arsenal’s record signings
In desperate need of a new No.9, the club turned to Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus and made the Brazilian the club’s fifth most expensive signing ever following a €52.2m transfer from the Etihad. However, he wasn’t the only big deal. Alongside the Brazilian, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Fabio Vieira, Matt Turner and Marquinhos have all made the move to Arteta’s side in a bid to plug the holes which sank Arsenal’s ambitions last season. And it has ended up costing the club €132.06m in return.
However, while fans of the Gunners will be delighted with their new signings, there’s little doubt that Arsenal also have plenty of squad players that are still picking up expensive wages each week, despite moving to the periphery of Arteta’s plans for the coming season. And if reports in England are to be believed, the club could now be set to spend the remaining summer transfer window selling off as many of them as they can.

Bellerin, Saliba and Mori – the players Arsenal may sell
Indeed, Arteta has already made it clear which players will and will not be part of his plans this summer, going by the club’s team sheet in pre-season friendlies. According to the Mirror, Bernd Leno, Pablo Marí and Héctor Bellerín were all excluded from the team’s recent friendly defeat to Brentford due to the fact that they’re all expected to be sold this summer.
Leno remains the subject of serious interest from Fulham and Leicester City, according to reports in England. While Mari and Bellerín are expected to complete moves to Fenerbahce and Betis respectively by the end of the window. However, the list of summer sales is unlikely to end there. Alongside the confirmed departure of Mattéo Guendouzi to Marseille, the French club are also reportedly keen on loaning left-back Nuno Tavares as well as making an offer to sign central defender William Saliba on a permanent deal, following his spell on loan last season.
Highest transfer spending in a single summer – PSG, Real & Barça in top 10 twice
When coupled with murmurs of Lucas Torreira heading to Italy or Spain and Nicolas Pépé’s links to Leeds United, as well as Konstantinos Mavropanos’s confirmed €3.2m move to Stuttgart, it’s easy to see why Arsenal may end up finishing the summer transfer window recouping much of the money they have already spent on new players. And, to the great delight of fans of the club, their team may look far better for it too.
