69-year-old strike partnership?

Diego Costa has been looking for a new employer since the beginning of the year. With a market value of €4 million, the 33-year-old is one of the most valuable centre-forwards without a club. While the Brazilian has been linked with Arsenal, Fenerbahce and Corinthians, among others, in recent months, a possible return to LaLiga is now becoming more concrete.

Rayo Vallecano are said to be working on a transfer of the veteran and have already made an offer to the right-footed striker. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, negotiations are progressing well, but a full agreement has not yet been reached. Previously, journalist Matteo Moretto had already reported on the topic. According to the report, the club from Madrid offered a one-year deal with a salary of €1 million plus possible bonus payments.

Costa is reportedly very interested in returning to the Spanish capital. Between 2007 and 2021, he played a total of 216 games for Atlético, with spells at Chelsea and other clubs inbetween, in which he was directly involved in 119 goals. With the Colchoneros, he won LaLiga twice and the Europa League once. The forward also reached his highest market value at the Rojiblancos, when he was valued at €60 million in 2018.

Costa to return to Rayo Vallecano? Possible reunion with Falcao

For Costa, it would be a return to old stomping grounds, having already played for Rayo Vallecano on loan in the second half of the 2011/12 season. During that time, he scored ten goals in 16 appearances. At the Madrilenians, he would also reunite with fellow striker Radamel Falcao, alongside whom he has already played 33 games. Together with the 35-year-old, Costa could form an 69-year-old strike partnership in the upcoming season.
