West Ham have reached an agreement with Serie A side Sassuolo for their star forward Gianluca Scamacca. According to Sky Sports, the Italian club were initially holding out for no less than £42.6 million (€49.4m) for the 23-year-old talent. But according to Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the two club settled on €36 million and an additional €6 million in add-ons. Sassuolo will also receive 10% of any future transfer.
The most expensive Premier League signings in the summer of 2022
“I am really excited to join West Ham,” said the forward, who will wear the No7 shirt. “I’ve waited a long time for this moment – it’s been a dream to play in the Premier League,” Scamacca said in a club statement. “I feel like West Ham is the perfect team for me. They showed they really wanted me and when I spoke to the manager, there was an instant understanding.”
West Ham getting the deal across the line is seen as a major success for the London club, following a summer period that has seen Scamacca linked with moves to none other than Borussia Dortmund, Atlético Madrid, and Paris Saint-Germain. Such intrigue from some of Europe’s biggest clubs has undoubtedly been garnered following an impressive 2021/22 season which saw the 23-year-old striker bag no less than 16 goals in 36 league games for Sassuolo.
Fans of the Hammers will be delighted to see Scamacca arrive at the club, following a frustrating summer window which has seen David Moyes’ side sign some impressive stars in Alphonse Areola, Flynn Downes and Nayef Aguerd but until now miss out on numerous transfer targets in the striker position. As such, West Ham will be hoping that Scamacca would not only prove to be the club’s second most expensive signing ever but also a long-term solution to their attacking woes.

Scamacca first, Kostic next – West Ham make a move for Frankfurt forward
However, it seems as though West Ham’s appetite for attacking players won’t entirely be quenched with the signing of the aformentioned Italian striker. According to sports journalist Fabrizio Romano, the club have also placed a bid for Eintracht Frankfurt winger Filip Kostic, who is currently valued at €24m and has one year remaining on his contract with the Eagles. The Serbian international has been linked with an exit from Frankfurt for much of the summer, following reports linking him with move to Tottenham Hotspur, Inter Milan, Juventus and Roma. Yet it remains to be seen whether West Ham’s interest is serious enough to entice the Bundesliga star to England.
