Way-Too-Early Replacements for Arne Slot as Liverpool Manager

Rightly or wrongly, Liverpool fans will always desire seeing Jürgen Klopp back in the Anfield dugout.

The 58-year-old is one of the club’s most successful managers, having delivered seven major trophies and ended a 30-year English league title drought in 2019-20.

Aside from the silverware, though, he’s perhaps one of the most well-loved, charismatic figures to lead the Reds—even in a long line of iconic coaches.

His decision to step down at the end of the 2023-24 campaign was tough to take for Liverpool fans, but it ensured he left the club as a legend, rather than outstaying his welcome.

Because of that, there’s no bad blood following his departure, and since he’s not taken up another head coach role elsewhere, he’s not made an enemy of himself.

The German, who is now head of global soccer for Red Bull, has left the door ajar for a stunning return, telling the Diary of a CEO podcast in October (h/t Scott Trotter of the ): “I said I would never coach a different team in England. So that means if, [I did return to England] then it’s Liverpool. Yeah, theoretically it’s possible.”

Should Slot be given his marching orders, the clamour will grow even louder.
