Liverpool had the opportunity to move ten points clear of Premier League title adversaries Arsenal on Wednesday but missed their chance after stumbling to a 2-2 draw at Villa Park.
A point away at Unai Emery’s Aston Villa is never a terrible result but the nerves will be creeping in for the Reds, who are eight points clear of the Gunners having played a game more. Those shaky feelings could be exacerbated by a challenging fixture list, with the next week crucial to Liverpool’s bid for the crown.
Arsenal’s injury crisis has taken the shine off dropped points for Liverpool in recent matches but Mikel Arteta’s side will be looking to capitalise on a potential loss of confidence in the Merseyside camp.
Here is how each side’s next five Premier League fixtures look.
Liverpool follow up their trip to Villa Park by journeying to the Etihad Stadium. Battling reigning Premier League champions Manchester City on Sunday afternoon, the Reds will be aiming to take advantage of their opponents’ patchy form and midweek Champions League exit when they visit one of their least favourite venues.
While Liverpool have been far superior to Pep Guardiola’s side this season, City’s home record has still been largely impressive, exemplified by their 4-0 demolition of Newcastle United last weekend.
Speaking of Newcastle United, Liverpool will face Eddie Howe’s side next Wednesday in the Premier League. A dress rehearsal of next month’s Carabao Cup final, the Reds head into the clash with an impressive record against the Magpies but will be wary of their ability to conjure up magic. Alexander Isak and former transfer target Anthony Gordon could be the difference-makers at Anfield.
Arne Slot’s men play just one Premier League match in March such is the bizarre nature of the modern football calendar. Their simplest fixture during the remainder of the campaign will see them host Southampton, comfortably the division’s worst side. Having said that, the Reds have twice struggled in victories over the Saints this term.
Liverpool’s next Premier League duel comes after the March international break and it’s a big one. Having been dealt stoppage-time heartbreak in the reverse fixture just last week, the Reds welcome Everton across Stanley Park for the second Merseyside derby of the campaign. The Toffees would love to dent their fierce foes’ title charge.
Liverpool have had issues overcoming Fulham in recent seasons – failing to do so in the 2-2 draw earlier this term – and will make the trip to west London shortly after Southampton’s visit. Despite their recent difficulties in battles with the capital side, the Reds haven’t lost at Craven Cottage since December 2011.

Liverpool have some challenging fixtures on the horizon but so do Arsenal. The Gunners are in action at home to West Ham United this weekend in what is their most straightforward fixture over the next six weeks. They beat the Irons 5-2 at the London Stadium earlier this season and should conquer Graham Potter’s iteration of the Hammers.
Things get harder from there, however, with a visit to Nottingham Forest coming afterwards. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have creaked slightly over recent weeks but are still sat in third with an eye-catching home record. They have lost just twice in 12 City Ground matches in the Premier League and have taken four points off Liverpool this season.
They may be languishing in 15th after a dismal season but Arsenal never find trips to Manchester United simple. They were beaten by Ruben Amorim’s underperformers in the FA Cup earlier this season and have historically struggled at Old Trafford – even if the Gunners have improved in battles there during recent campaigns.
Another rivalry comes the following weekend as Arsenal aim to put the pressure on table topping Liverpool. With the Reds in Carabao Cup final action, the Gunners can move closer to their competitors with victory over Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium. The Blues are currently stuck in a downward spiral and have only won one of their last five trips to the red half of north London.
Just four days before Liverpool lock horns with Fulham, Arsenal will host their fellow Londoners. The Gunners have failed to win any of their last three meetings with the Cottagers, including the two most recent battles at the Emirates.
