Manchester United’s deadline day might have been uneventful but they have now received the news they’d been waiting for – the Lisandro Martinez injury update.
Lisandro Martinez buckled his knee in an awkward fashion against Crystal Palace and was seen leaving the field on a stretcher.
Amorim didn’t sound too optimistic about Martinez’s injury recovery timeline after the game and United putting out a statement only deepened the gravity of the situation.
United have now received an injury update on their star defender and it’s not the news anyone would have wanted to hear.
Lisandro Martinez injury update
Argentine journalist Gaston Edul reports that the worst possible outcome has been realised for Martinez’s injury, with the defender tearing his ligament.
The knee ligament is the worst possible injury but it still depends on which ligament he’s torn, with the anterior cruciate ligament having a recovery timeline of 9-10 months.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic suffered from that injury at Old Trafford and it took him that much time to recover. It’s often said that the players lose some bounce and zip permanently after that injury.
Argentina outlet TYC Sports reports that Martinez will undergo surgery soon and he is expected to be out for a minimum of eight months.
Considering how much rehab is needed to recover from such an injury, it is safe to say that Martinez could feasibly start a game again for United by the time next January’s window begins.
Amad’s message to Lisandro Martinez
There is no player in the Man Utd squad who can replicate the skill set of Martinez, with his combination of passing, dribbling, and defending rare in centre-backs.
Expect Ayden Heaven’s role at United to increase unexpectedly, especially with the club not having much to play for in the PREMIER League.
Luke Shaw’s potential return will mean much more, although he’s one who’ll have to be managed carefully as well due to his own injury history.
Amad went on Instagram and sent Martinez a message, writing: “You will come back stronger hermano” with a heart emoji and a finger heart.
In any case, it’s a case of one minor positive outweighed by one major negative for United as Patrick Dorgu’s arrival finally meant United would have a fully reliable left-footed left side of the team.
Martinez’s prolonged absence means Amorim’s worst fear is realised.
