Liverpool and Arsenal are locked in a Premier League title race this season and one pundit believes the Reds have an edge over their rivals
Liverpool have one advantage over Arsenal in the Premier League title race, according to Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp.
Arne Slot’s side are currently just three points clear of the Gunners in the league standings after the London club’s 5-1 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday evening. The Reds are in action against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, while they also have a further game in hand against Merseyside rivals Everton.
That being said, Liverpool failed to further extend their lead over their title rivals, including Chelsea, in recent weeks after suffering back-to-back Premier League draws against Newcastle United and Fulham. Regardless, Redknapp believes Liverpool’s strength in depth, with key players returning to fitness, could give them the edge over Arsenal in the title race.

“Liverpool, they’re the team right now that’s in great form but we all know how quickly form can disappear,” the pundit told Sky Sports after Arsenal’s win at Selhurst Psrk. “They’ve been brilliant because they’ve had a few injuries as well but what Liverpool have got and Arsenal still need – and if they can do it in January I think it’d give them even more chance – is that when everyone is fit, I’m talking Jota and players like that, so many people can come off the bench and make an impact.
“Arsenal are just short in that area. I think Jesus is going to be interesting and how they utilise him in games, but I still think they need another striker or forward player, someone to come in off the wide just to add some goals, experience and bolster that forward line.
“At times it does feel like if Saka is to be out for however long, have they got someone who can fill that void? They’re just short of one or two players still.”
Liverpool remain without just two key first team players after managing a brief injury crisis at the beginning of December. Goalkeeper Alisson, along with Jota, Federico Chiesa and Kostas Tsimikas have all returned to action in recent weeks, although Ibrahima Konate and Conor Bradley are still sidelined with injuries.
The upcoming January transfer window will also present an opportunity for all three of Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea to bolster their squads ahead of a crucial run-in. Chelsea have an opportunity to move ahead of the Reds in the table and pile the pressure on Slot’s side with a win over Everton in the early kick-off on Sunday.
