Ange Postecoglou, manager of Tottenham Hotspur, has made several signings during the summer transfer window in preparation for the upcoming Premier League season. Among the new additions is 16-year-old center-back Luka Vuskovic, who has been hailed as one of the best young talents in the World.
Vuskovic, who currently plays for Croatian club Hajduk Split, has agreed to join Spurs but will not formally join the team until 2025 due to FIFA rules prohibiting overseas players from joining their new club until they turn 18. However, Tottenham was able to make the signing outside of the summer transfer window as it is considered a “developmental signing.”
The young defender has made 11 first-team appearances for Hajduk Split and has also represented the Croatia U-17 squad, earning five caps. There were rumors that reigning champion Manchester City was interested in signing Vuskovic before Tottenham secured his services.
The transfer fee for Vuskovic is reported to be $14.5 million USD, making it the most expensive transfer for an under-18 player in club and Premier League history. The contract is five years in length, running until 2030.
With the signing of Vuskovic, Tottenham’s busy summer transfer window seems to be coming to a close. The club has brought in several other young players, such as Brennan Johnson, Micky Van de Ven, Alejo Veliz, and Ashley Phillips, in an effort to strengthen the future of the team.
Overall, Spurs’ business in the transfer window has been praised for its focus on developing young talents. It remains to be seen how these new players will perform and contribute to the team’s success in the Premier League.
