Frank Lampard leaves Everton – Most out of form team in any of the top leagues

In relegation danger

Frank Lampard is no longer in charge for Everton. The Liverpool-based clubs announced on Monday that Lampard has left his post as senior men’s first-team manager. Reports that the club would sack Lampard started to leak earlier on Monday. After matchday 20, the Toffees are just 19th in the Premier League standings. Over the last ten games, Everton are the most out-of-form team in all top four leagues; even Bundesliga side Schalke have a better record.

“Everyone at Everton would like to thank Frank and his coaching staff for their service during what has been a challenging 12 months,” a club statement read. “Frank and his team’s commitment and dedication have been exemplary throughout their time at the Club, but recent results and the current league position meant this difficult decision had to be taken. We wish Frank and all his backroom team well for their future in the game.”

The former midfielder took over Everton in January 2022. The 44-year-old, however, only managed a points-per-game average of 1.0 in 44 games. Prior to his time at Everton, Lampard was in charge of Chelsea from July 2019 to January 2021 before being replaced by Thomas Tuchel. Everton are yet to name a successor and Paul Tait and Leighton Baines will be in charge of team training.

Lampard saved Everton last season – The club spent €78.2m on new players

Lampard, who guided Everton to safety in 2022/23, described this season as difficult. After fighting off relegation last season, Everton spent €78.2m on new players but also lost Brazilian winger Richarlison, who joined Tottenham for €58m last summer. Lampard recently pointed out that losing Richarlison was going to hurt the club this season. “The start [to the season] was going to be tough but it was where we are building and for us that probably meant staying where we are in the league and that may be the reality.”
