Agnelli & Nedved left
This article was first published on November 28 but has since been updated with new information.
In a shock move, the entire board of directors at Juventus, including president Andrea Agnelli and vice president Pavel Nedved, have resigned from their positions in late November. First reported by Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Serie A record champions have since confirmed the news in a club statement published on Juventus’ official homepage. The Italian football federation has since launched an investigation into the club and on Jan. 20, Romano tweeted that Juventus would receive a 15-point deduction for capital gains violations.
According to the statement issued by the club in November, the board stepped down after “having considered the centrality and relevance of pending legal and accounting issues.” Juventus have been under investigation by prosecutors in Turin for allegedly falsifying accounting practices and irregularities when it comes to transfers and loaning out players.
The most valuable players in the Serie A
With new information available, the board decided to resign. “[We] considered [it] to be in the best social interest to recommend that Juventus equip itself with a new Board of Directors to address these issues,” the statement on the homepage read. Current managing director Maurizio Arrivabene was asked to stay on for an interim period while a new board could be brought together, the statement added. Those members of the board have now also been sanctioned. Paratici (2.5 years), Agnelli, Arrivabene, Nedved (8 months), and Cherubini (1.4 years) will be banned from football. The bans could still be challenged in court.
La Liga called on immediate sanctions – FIGC now reacts
The Spanish footballing authorities responded to Juventus’ situation by calling on UEFA to take a strong stance against the Italian giants and went as far as to demand an “immediate sports sanction” be applied to the club by filing an official complaint, in accordance with investigations into Juventus’ financial dealings.

In a statement, LaLiga said: “Specifically, the complaint charges that Juventus accounted for transfers above fair value and under-accounted for employee expenses, resulting in a breach of UEFA break even requirements. Additionally, the complaint charges that Juventus concealed the true wage bill of its players.”

According to CBS Sport, the Spanish authorities are calling on sanctions to be placed on Juventus, but are also pushing for disciplinary measures which could lead to the Turin club being relegated from Serie A and excluded from European competitions, such as the Champions League and Europa League. Two months later, the FIGC has now responded by issuing a 15 point deduction, which will see the club drop to 11th place in the Serie A standings. Whether further sanctions will follow remains to be seen.
