Job offers from England
Former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has revealed that he thinks he was prematurely sacked by the Premier League club and that he has already received job offers from other clubs since leaving Stamford Bridge.
After impressive stints at Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain, Tuchel took on the job of Chelsea manager in January 2021, after replacing the sacked Frank Lampard. In his 18 months at the club, Tuchel was in charge for just under 100 games and averaged 2.07 points per game, along the way to winning the Champions League with the club in 2022. However, after a poor start to the 2022/23 season, Tuchel was sacked by the club’s new owner Todd Boehly.
Lukaku, Shevchenko & Co. – Chelsea’s most expensive signings
Since then, Tuchel has kept a low profile and has reportedly spent much of his time travelling in India. Which has now led to the manager’s first high-profile interview since leaving Chelsea, when he spoke to Indian publication Sportstar, telling them how he now looked back on leaving the English club. “I loved every day at Chelsea,” said Tuchel. “It came to an end too early for me, but it was out of my hands. This is also what you sign up for.”
Speaking about the high points that remembers at Chelsea, Tuchel took note of the Champion League win against all odds. “It was of such a level that you never expect to win it,” said the German head coach. “We played the role of an underdog. When I joined, the club was placed ninth in the ( Premier) League, so even qualifying for the Champions League was an achievement.” He added: “There were many games that I was really happy with – the ones against Real Madrid (2-0), Atletico Madrid (2-0), Porto (2-0 and 1-0) and the final (1-0 against Manchester City).”
Villa, Leverkusen or England – Tuchel’s next move is of great interest to many
Since leaving Chelsea, Tuchel’s talents have remained in high demand and as such the 49-year-old head coach has been linked with a number of jobs, including Aston Villa and Bayer Leverkusen, in his native Germany. The manager has also been linked with a move to international football, with reports in England recently suggesting that he could take over from Gareth Southgate as England manager after the 2022 World Cup.

However, while Tuchel was happy to admit that there have been enquiries, he also stated that his agent has made sure to keep him out of the loop about such job offers and that he hasn’t made up his mind on what to do next. “I haven’t made a decision yet,” said Tuchel. “It is now time for me to take a break. Some clubs have been calling my agent but we agreed that he would not call me here for these past 18 days.”
