Jamal Musiala further underlines his status at Bayern – Like Müller “should always play”

By

After market value update

It was a brilliant combination between Jamal Musiala and Thomas Müller that led to Bayern Munich’s second goal in their 4-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen on Friday. Musiala first played the ball to Müller, then received the ball back before beating Lukas Hradecky with a shot to the near post (17’).

For Musiala, it was the second goal involvement of the night. The 19-year-old also assisted Bayern’s first goal of the night with an unorthodox run down the right flank; his cross then found Leroy Sané for the opener (3’). The two goals helped Bayern overcome a four-game winless streak in the Bundesliga and will, for now, calm the debate surrounding head coach Julian Nagelsmann.

“I just want to be consistent, develop and help the team as much as possible,” Musiala said after the game. The forward, however, is not convinced that Bayern are quite out of the woods yet. “For me, we must show consistent performance over several games. One game doesn’t mean everything is good. But the game today will help.”

Musiala on Müller: “His IQ is very high” – “Always try to copy something from him”

Sadio Mané (39’) and then Müller (84’) would add two more goals to cap off a big win for the Rekordmeister. But the play by Musiala and his chemistry with Müller had people talking at the Allianz Arena after the game.

“His IQ is very high,” Musiala said about Müller after the game when asked about their relationship on the pitch (cited via Gegenpressing). “I always try to copy something from him; he understands things that I can’t even see, but I am learning from him, and our chemistry keeps on improving.”

Musiala has been one of the few players in normal form during the four-game winless streak, and the Rekordmeister certainly hope that the 19-year-old can help to fill the void left by forward Robert Lewandowski. Early indications show that Musiala can do just that; the forward has scored five goals and three assists in seven Bundesliga games this season. Thanks to the goals scored on Friday, Musiala now leads Bayern Munich in goalscoring and, together with Mané and Sané, leads the most dangerous attacking trio in the Bundesliga (overview).

Leading scorer – Musiala underlines status as most valuable Bayern player

There is no doubt that Musiala, at just 19, has now taken a leadership role at Bayern, which has also been reflected in his recent market value update that now lists the 19-year-old as the most valuable Bayern player together with Joshua Kimmich. There is, in many ways, a parallel to a young Müller, who burst onto the scene 13 years ago with his unorthodox play, not too dissimilar to Musialas.

Müller, too, was crucial for Bayern at a young age, leading then head coach Louis van Gaal to proclaim at the time that “Müller must always play.” Friday night underlined; the same can now be said about Musiala, whose meteoric rise has catapulted him onto the list as one of the most valuable players on the planet.
