Free agent Dan-Axel Zagadou appears to have a couple of options to find a new club finally. RMC Sport reported on Tuesday that West Ham United and Olympique Lyon are interested in the former Borussia Dortmund center-back. Despite numerous clubs being interested, the 23-year-old is yet to find a new club after Dortmund opted not to renew his contract after five years with the club.
Denayer, Costa & Co. – The most valuable free agents
According to the report, Zagadou is in advanced talks with West Ham. The Premier League club have offered a four-year contract. Zagadou would be the ninth signing for the Hammers this season. The club has already spent €182 million on new players—only two teams have spent more this summer— and Zagadou would be the first free transfer of the season.
West Ham currently have five center-backs under contract, but the contracts of Craig Dawson and Angelo Ogbonna will expire at the end of the season. Both are no more than squad players. Furthermore, Nayef Aguerd is currently out with an injury, which is why manager David Moyes has fully trusted Kurt Zouma and Thilo Kehrer to center the defense. Despite conceding just eight goals this season, West Ham have struggled and are in 18th place.
West Ham favorites to sign Zagadou – Olympique Lyon still in the race?
Olympique Lyon are the other team interested in Zagadou. The Ligue 1 side are trained by Peter Bosz, who knows Zagadou from his time as the Dortmund head coach. Zagadou played 15 games under the current OL head coach. The Dutch head coach currently has four defenders under contract and wants to add one more player, but West Ham currently appear to be leading the race for the former French youth international.
