Premier Liga update

Transfermarkt has updated the market values of the Ukrainian Premier Liga. Mykhaylo Mudryk of Shakhtar Donetsk is by far the biggest winner after being linked with a move to a top 5 league this summer. The left winger, who has been the subject of interest from Bayer Leverkusen and Brentford in particular, increased his value by €6 million to €15 million, which means he has now moved up to second in the league-wide rankings. Almost exactly a year ago, he was still valued at €900,000.

At €25 million, Dynamo Kyiv’s Viktor Tsygankov, who already occupies the top spot since the middle of 2019, is still the most valuable player in Ukraine. All in all, there have been only few upward or downward corrections at the top of the rankings in this update. In addition to Mudryk, two other footballers, who appear among the ten most valuable players of the league, were readjusted. For Georgiy Bushchan of current titleholders Dynamo and Artem Dovbyk of SK Dnipro-1 the market value goes up by €1 million each. Among the downgraded players, the highest devaluation of 500,000 is received by Dynamo’s Vladyslav Supryaga, whose market value now amounts to €2.5 million. The striker, who played for Sampdoria in the second half of last season, is still out for several weeks due to a hip injury.

With a squad value of €109.8 million, Dynamo Kyiv are the only club with a market value above €100 million. Not counting Shakhtar, Dynamo alone are almost worth as much as all other clubs combined. When last season ended prematurely in April as a result of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, the value of the league was around €350 million; currently, it stands at just over €300 million. Many foreign players had made use of the FIFA regulations and suspended their contracts or moved to clubs abroad permanently, which is why the number of foreigners has now dropped to 44. The most valuable non-Ukrainian player is Shakhtar’s Lassina Traoré, who ranks seventh in the Premier Liga with a market value of €9 million.

How Transfermarkt market values work

The Transfermarkt market values are calculated, taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees.

The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (you can find the detailed market value definition here).
