Frankfurt club officials already confirmed the transfer on Wednesday, among them head coach Oliver Glasner. “I am both sad and happy,” Glasner said when asked about the transfer ahead of the UEFA Super Cup final against Real Madrid. “It is clear that he has been a dominant player in our attack. Losing a player like him makes us weaker without a doubt.” Kostic was not part of Frankfurt’s team that lost 2-0 to Real.
“There are also some positives, especially when you consider that he started last season with a strike,” Glasner said. “We had many conversations, and I told him that if he leaves, he should be leaving as a hero.” Kostic was an important part of the team that won the UEFA Europa League last season. The Serbian winger joined the Eagles for on loan from Hamburger SV in 2018 and was then signed on a permanent deal for just €6.55 million. Kostic managed 33 goals and 64 assists in 171 games for the Eagles.
