Former Leeds target
The transfer of Charles De Ketelaere to AC Milan is completed. On Tuesday evening, the Rossoneri as well as Club Brugge confirmed the agreement, which set a new benchmark in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League. According to media reports, the Serie A club will pay an initial transfer fee of €32 million, potentially rising by another €3 million in add-ons. Never before has a player left the Belgian top flight for a higher amount. Previously, Jonathan David had held the record since he left KAA Gent for LOSC Lille for €27 million in 2020.

21-year-old De Ketelaere signed a contract with the Italian titleholders until 2027 and is the second external addition this summer following Divock Origi. In Milan’s ranking of the most expensive signings in club history, the Belgian jumps to ninth place, tied with Franck Kessié, who left the club for FC Barcelona this summer.

De Ketelaere has been playing for boyhood club Brugge since 2008 and has made 120 appearances to date, scoring 25 goals and providing 20 assists. In the last market value update in Belgium, his value went up by another €3 million to €30 million, setting a new record in the league: no other player has ever been valued this highly in the past. The attacking midfielder had previously been linked with a move to Leeds in the current transfer window, but preferred join Milan in the end.
