Red Bull Salzburg want record fee
“Fernando, Noah Okafor and I spoke after the game and said that we make a really good team. We are all fast and play well together,” Red Bull Salzburg’s Benjamin Sesko said after last Friday’s Bundesliga victory over Austria Vienna. The 19-year-old Slovenian himself as well as his two teammates from Brazil and Switzerland each contributed a goal in the 3-0 win. Whether and how long Sesko will stay in the Austrian capital seems questionable in view of the large pool of interested parties. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano and consistent English media reports, Manchester United have joined the list of interested clubs.

The Red Devils have reportedly been keeping an eye on the 13-time international for some time and have defined Sesko as a possible backup for their attack, should Cristiano Ronaldo, who is almost 20 years older, leave Old Trafford in the summer transfer window. However, concrete talks with Salzburg have not yet taken place. Just last week, English media reported on a possible move of the talented centre-forward to Newcastle after Sesko’s agent posted photos of Tyneside on social media. The Magpies, who have invested €66 million in reinforcements for their defence and midfield so far, are also still looking for a forward.
Sesko had moved to the Red Bull club from his home country for a transfer fee of €2.5 million in 2019 and initially spent two seasons on loan at Salzburg farm team FC Liefering. There, he increased his market value almost eightfold, scoring 28 goals in 44 games over two years, while he also found the back of the net eleven times across all competitions during his first season for Salzburg. In recent weeks, the tall attacker has also been considered as a possible candidate to fill the gaps left by the departures of ex-Salzburg player Erling Haaland and Robert Lewandowski in the forward lines of Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich respectively.
Red Bull want record fee for Sesko: Only three U-19 players more expensive
Sesko’s contract with Salzburg still runs until 2026. According to consistent media reports, the Austrians want around €65 million for the teenager. A sum that is more than double the amount paid by BVB for attacker Karim Adeyemi, and would make the right-footed striker the most expensive sale of the Austrian serial title winners. While at United, Sesko would surpass Wayne Rooney as the most expensive teenage signing in club history, worldwide only three U-19 players have been more expensive in the history of football.
