3rd big transfer
As it stands right now, Aston Villa will have a new most valuable player in their squad next season. On Thursday, the Premier League club announced that they have agreed a deal with Sevilla to sign Diego Carlos. The 29-year-old Brazilian will be headed to England in the coming days to complete his medical and sign his contract.
Carlos, who won an Olympic gold medal with Brazil last year, has a market value of €45 million. Neither club confirmed a transfer fee—but the defender’s exit clause was rumored to be in the region of €75-80 million. The transfer fee is expected to be a little below the exit clause. Newcastle United failed in January with a €36 million bid. The most expensive player in Villa history is Emiliano Buendía, who was signed for €38.4 million from Norwich.

The 29-year-old joined Sevilla from Nantes in 2019 and played 136 games for the Spanish club winning the Europa League last year. For Aston Villa, it is the third major transfer ahead of the new season. Philippe Coutinho was signed for €20 million from Barcelona and Boubacar Kamara is going to join on a free transfer from Olympique Marseille.
