Finally official!
It has been a deal in the works for over a year, Major League Soccer side Inter Miami CF have finally signed Ecuadorian forward Leonardo Campana. The MLS club made the deal official on Thursday morning. Campana will join Inter Miami CF on loan with an option to buy from Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers until the end of 2022.
“We’re excited to acquire a player of Leonardo’s pedigree,” Inter Miami sporting director Chris Henderson said in a club statement. “He’s a hungry young forward with a lot of promise, and we’re confident we’ll be able to develop him and help him reach his full potential with us. He’ll add to our attack and give us a great option upfront that we believe can score goals in this league.”
A Barcelona SC product, the Ecuadorian striker was a key figure of the U20 national team that won the U20 South American championship in 2019. He was then signed on a free transfer by Wolverhampton Wanderers in January 2020 but failed to break into the first team. Instead, the 21-year-old spent time on loan at the Portuguese side Famalicão and Grasshoppers Zürich scoring five goals and one assist in 25 games.
