Major League Soccer side Toronto FC have sold Canadian men’s national team player Richie Laryea to Championship side Nottingham Forest. That deal is now all but completed and Transfermarkt understands that the Reds will receive $1 million for the right-back. It is a significant fee for an outgoing transfer. Only three players Maurice Edu (to Rangers in 2008), Jermain Defoe (to Sunderland in 2015), and Sebastian Giovinco (to Hilal in 2019) recorded bigger transfer fees for the MLS club (overview).

“It has been a pleasure to see Richie blossom here at his hometown club and become a full member of the Canadian national team,” Toronto FC President Bill Manning said in a club statement. “Richie thrilled our fans with his explosive speed, incredible dribbling and commitment to win. We worked closely with Richie and his representation on this transaction as he follows his dream to play in England and wish him all the best as he moves on to Nottingham Forest.”

For Toronto FC, the Laryea transfer will mean a significant transfer profit. The club signed Laryea on a free deal from Orlando City in 2019 and the Canadian has since increased his market value from $275,000 to $3.85 million. Laryea is now one of the ten most valuable Canadian national team players on the planet.
