Update Primera División

Transfermarkt has updated the market values of the Primera División de Chile, which has caused some movement among the top five most valuable players in the league. The biggest winner is Marcelino Núñez whose market value has been doubled from €800,000 to €1.6 million. The central midfielder plays for champions CD Universidad Católica and celebrated his debut for the national team in the World Cup qualifier against Colombia in September. Directly involved in nine goals, he is the third-best scorer on his team.

His new market value means that Núñez will draw even with Joaquín Montecinos, who, in turn, is up by €600,000. Like Núñez, the Audax Italiano attacking midfielder, who is currently the top goalscorer in the league, has recently made his debut for the Chilean national team. Both now share fourth place in the ranking of the most valuable players in the league. Three players remain unchanged at the very top. Colo Colo‘s Leonardo Gil (€2.3m) is now alone in first place after Católica’s Ignacio Saavedra (€2.1m) saw his market value drop by €200,000. Third is Savvedra’s teammate Fernando Zampredi (€1.8m).

Former Bundesliga player Miiko Albornoz received his third downgrade in a row. The 30-year-old left-back plays for Colo Colo and dropped by €150,000 to now €450,000.

How Transfermarkt market values work

The Transfermarkt market values are calculated, taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees.

The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (you can find the detailed market value definition here).
