Willie Lettis, a 75-year-old Fantasy Premier League player, has won his first private league title after finishing in the top 0.006% of teams in the competition. Lettis, a native of Kildare who moved to Cork in 1963, had previously struggled in the FPL due to an over-reliance on Manchester United players and Irish players. However, in recent years, he has focused on players with high potential for scoring points via clean sheets, assists, and scoring goals, and this season he adopted a three-pronged strategy of captaining Erling Haaland, focusing on upcoming fixtures, and avoiding “hits” (sacrificing points for more transfers). By mid-season, Lettis had surpassed the 100k mark and by game week 23, he was amongst the top 10k players in the game. His clever use of “chips” helped him reach 473rd in the world by game week 35 before eventually dropping back to his final position of 720. The win is particularly impressive given that Lettis was competing in a private league catering for just 11,447,257 players.
