Top FPL players among Premier League stars from Andy Robertson to Patrick Bamford

Thousands of Premier League fans across the world bid for Fantasy Football greatness on a weekly basis, crossing their fingers and praying for a goal, assist or clean sheet from one of their designated players to hand them bragging rights over their mates.

Yet it is not only the supporters who try their luck on the game every week, as some eagle-eyed Fantasy Premier League managers have stumbled across a number of teams belonging to top-flight stars themselves.

The jury’s still out on whether this is fair or not, given Premier League footballers may have more inside knowledge than most when it comes to *checks notes* Premier League football.

A number of Premier League stars try their luck at Fantasy Football on a weekly basis, including Liverpool defender Andy Robertson

Liverpool defender Andy Robertson is an avid FPL player, with his transfers even giving away Jurgen Klopp’s team selection in real life on a few occasions.

The Scot took team-mate Sadio Mane out of his side in Gameweek 10 and Gameweek 21, and it turned out the Senegal star was either dropped to the bench or left out of the squad on both occasions.

Robertson provided two clues that Sadio Mane would be dropped from the Reds’ XI earlier in the season by transferring him out of his FPL side

That kind of insider knowledge has done Robertson favours throughout the campaign, as he currently sits second in his mini-league of nine people with a total of 1266 points.

The only other Liverpool player in that league is his fellow full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, who finds himself down in fourth place with 1159 points.

However, Alexander-Arnold is clearly not as hooked on the game as Robertson due to the fact he hasn’t made a transfer since December 23.

Trent Alexander-Arnold also has a team, although he hasn’t made a transfer since December 23

His England colleague Harry Maguire is another Premier League ace who tries his hand at FPL every week, with the Manchester United captain amassing a higher total of 1366 points so far this term.

Maguire is in an even bigger mini-league consisting of 50 people and currently sits in 16th place, 164 points clear of Three Lions team-mate and Atletico Madrid defender Kieran Trippier, who is down in 48th.

Nevertheless, he had a nightmare in Gameweek 23 by leaving Man City’s Phil Foden on the bench with 16 points.

Other players who get involved in the game include Newcastle striker Andy Carroll, who has come up with the genius team name “AC me rollin’”, West Brom star Robert Snodgrass and Leeds forward Patrick Bamford.

Incredibly, Bamford revealed after Leeds’ 3-1 win over Leicester last month that he decided to unselfishly tee up Jack Harrison for their second goal on the day because he had himself in his own FPL team.

“I think a lot of the boys expected me to shoot on the last one, but Jack had it on a plate, so I couldn’t shoot there,” he told Sky Sports.
