Deal level with market value

Konstantinos Mavropanos will stay at VfB Stuttgart. The Swabians announced on Thursday evening that the 23-year-old center-back will be loaned for one more year from Arsenal, where he is under contract until 2023. The Bundesliga club also has a purchase option, which according to Bild, is in the region of €7 million—Mavropanos’ market value is currently €6 million. David Ornstein from The Athletic, in the meantime, has the loan fee at £500,000, the purchase option, which is an obligation to buy should Stuttgart stay in the Bundesliga at £3 million, plus £1.5 million in bonuses—altogether around €6 million.

“We have always stressed that we would like to keep Dino long-term here in Stuttgart, as long as we get the opportunity,” VfB director of sport Sven Mislintat said about the deal. Mavropanos has always stressed that he would like to stay in Stuttgart. “We were now able to find a sensible solution with Arsenal. Dino is on the path of becoming a top center-back, and we are happy that he is staying at der VfB.

Mavropanos hopes to fulfill his “full potential” in Stuttgart

Mavropanos always wanted to stay in Stuttgart and underlined that in a press statement. “My wish has been granted,” Mavropanos said. “I thank the full VfB family for the trust invested in me. I also want to thank Sven Mislintat and Pellegrino Matarazzo; both are fantastic people who have supported my path with the highest amount of professionalism. I want to reach my full potential, to help my team reach its goals.” The former 1.FC Nürnberg defender joined Stuttgart from Arsenal on loan in July 2020 and played 22 games for the club last season. A meniscus injury held him back at the start of the season. But after regaining his fitness Mavropanos was a consistent starter under Matarazzo.
