Premier League Let down by defensive frailties
After 22 Premier League games so far this season, Leeds United have registered 10 victories, the same number of defeats and two draws.
Curiously, their goal figures are similar too, as Marcelo Bielsa‘s side have scored 38 times and conceded 38 goals in 2020/21.
Leeds currently sit 10th in the Premier League table, mainly due to their defensive issues as they have one of the best attacks in the English top flight.
What they also lack is consistency, as they could go from a 5-2 victory against Newcastle United to a 6-2 thrashing at the hands of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United in a matter of days.
“Almost everyone believes that our football is entertaining,” Bielsa recently told a press conference.
“There are opinions that state how fun it is to face a team that concedes so many goals.
“We, like all teams, choose to play in one way because we believe that it is what brings us closer to victory.
“The most important thing is how we play and how we reach a certain position at the end of the season.
“If you finish eighth playing badly, for me it is worse than finishing 12th playing well.
“But it is also true that if you play well, it is much easier to finish in a better position.
“Hopefully we can play well and climb up the table.”
