Brighton & Hove Albion’s qualification for European football will give the club a significant advantage in keeping hold of their first-team players, according to manager Robert De Zerbi. The Seagulls secured their spot in European competition for the first time following their victory over Southampton last weekend, and need just one point from their final two Premier League games to confirm their place in next season’s Europa League.

Brighton’s impressive performances this season have resulted in several of their players attracting interest from top-flight teams. Moises Caicedo, who was the subject of Arsenal‘s attention in January, and Alexis Mac Allister have been linked with moves to Liverpool as the Reds aim to revamp their midfield after a disappointing campaign. However, De Zerbi is hopeful that European football will be enough to keep his players at the Amex Stadium.

“We can offer Moises and Alexis the opportunity to play in Europe,” said the Brighton boss. “Our level is bigger now. They are very good guys and it will help. I think for myself and the club but also for the players – they have one life and we can’t decide for them.”

Brighton has had to deal with the departure of several key players over the years, including Marc Cucurella, Yves Bissouma, Neal Maupay, and Leandro Trossard, who made a mid-season move to Arsenal. However, De Zerbi is keen to hold on to rising star Levi Colwill, who has been impressive since joining on loan from Chelsea this season. The 20-year-old has caught the eye of the Brighton boss, who is hoping to work with him for “another two, three, four years.”

“I hope Levi can play with us next year, but it’s the decision of Chelsea,” De Zerbi said. “We have to be ready to change some players but he’s a top player for us.”

Brighton’s qualification for European football is a significant milestone for the club, and the opportunity to compete on the continent will undoubtedly be attractive to their players. However, holding onto their stars will be a challenge for the south coast side given the interest from some of England’s biggest teams. Regardless, Brighton’s bright future is evident, and the Seagulls will be a team to keep an eye on next season.
