Leicester City have been relegated from the Premier League after finishing in 18th place, with James Maddison expected to leave the club as a result. The team, which had been managed by former Norwich boss Dean Smith until the end of the season, won two of their eight games in charge at the King Power Stadium. Maddison, an England international, is believed to be attracting the attention of several clubs looking to purchase the attacking midfielder and his departure is expected to be costly for Leicester, with Norwich retaining a sell-on fee that would give them 15% of any profit made on a sale. The future of Smith and his assistants, Craig Shakespeare and John Terry, is unclear, having been signed on only until the end of the season. Norwich was also relegated from the Premier League following a final-day 4-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, and will face Leeds United in the Championship next season.
Meanwhile, Russell Martin is set to be named as the new head coach at Southampton, following the relegation of both Southampton and Leeds from the Premier League. Sheffield Wednesday and Barnsley will compete on Bank Holiday Monday for the final spot in the second tier in the League One play-off final, with Norwich’s Championship fixtures set to be released on June 22.
