Update Super League
Transfermarkt.ch has updated the market values of the Swiss Super League ahead of the start of the new season—with the exception of the EURO 2020 players around Becir Omeragic and Silvan Widmer, who were already updated before the start of the tournament. The biggest winner, with a 66.7% increase, up 2 million to €5 million, is young striker Felix Mambimbi of champions BSC Young Boys.

The 20-year-old made his breakthrough in 2020/21, scoring eight goals and providing three assists in 43 competitive games. Mambimbi’s scoring was particularly strong in the closing stages of the season. In the overall Super League rankings, the U21 international moved up into the top 10, now tied with defensive talent Omeragic (FC Zürich) and US men’s national team striker Jordan Siebatcheu (+0.5 million).
The most valuable players of the Swiss Super League after the update (June 2021)
Jumping further up the league podium is young defender Leonidas Stergiou of FC St. Gallen 1879. The 19-year-old Swiss U21 captain earns a plus of €1 million to €6 million. In the TM rumor mill, the St. Gallen top performer has long been linked with bigger clubs from the top leagues, including Real Betis, Valencia and Atalanta.
Top-ranked Arthur Cabral of FC Basel 1893 and Jean-Pierre Nsame (BSC Young Boys) confirm their market values of €8 million and €7 million respectively. In the case of Young Boys attacker Nsame, however, this is only due to his serious injury, as David Isler (disler), Area Manager Switzerland at TM, explains: “He tore his Achilles tendon in mid-May and will be out for months. Otherwise, this summer might have been the time for a million Euro move.”
Many young players upgraded in Super League – Except Basel’s Palacios
In general, mainly young players are upgraded in this update. In addition to Mambimbi and Stergiou, this applies to 20-year-old defender Kastriot Imeri (+€1m to €4m) from Servette FC, left-winger Lucas Da Cunha (+€1.2m to €3m) from FC Lausanne-Sport and Marco Burch (+€1.4m to €2m) from FC Luzern.
Argentinian Matías Palacios of FC Basel concedes the only devaluation among the top Super League values, and by far the biggest of the update. The 19-year-old attacking midfielder, signed for €5.23 million from San Lorenzo in February to much praise, has been a big disappointment so far in Isler’s opinion: “He has not been convincing at all so far, and is obviously still having trouble acclimatizing. In nine appearances, none of them over 90 minutes, Palacios marked only one assist.” Consequence: a minus of 2.5 million to €5.5 million.
The Transfermarkt market values are calculated, taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees. The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (you can find the detailed market value definition here).
