Update ahead of Clausura
Ahead of the Clausura, Transfermarkt has updated the market values of the Paraguayan Primera División. The players with the biggest upgrades are U20 players Fernando Ovelar from Cerro Porteño and Hugo Quintana from record champions Olimpia. The 17-year-old forward and the 19-year-old midfielder have received plenty of playing time over the last few months and managed to play themselves into the spotlight. Ovelar rises from €900,000 to €1.2 million and Quintana from €800,000 to €1.3 million.
Among the top players at Cerro Porteño is Robert Morales; he saw his market value grow by €1.6 million to €2 million and is the biggest winner of the update. Central defender Alexis Duarte is another one to watch. The 21-year-old convinced in the Copa Libertadores, where his club reached the knockout stage. Duarte was also nominated for Paraguay’s squad ahead of the Copa América but failed to make the final squad.
Duarte’s market value jumps from €3 million to €3.5 million, and he is now ahead of Olimpia’s Saúl Salcedo, who previously was the most valuable center-back in Paraguay. The 23-year-old dropped by €500,000 to now €3 million. One reason were injuries that have slowed the defender down since he joined Olimpia. Salcedo’s previous market value dates back from his time at Huracán. Argentina, in general, has a higher market value average than Paraguay.
The most valuable squad belongs to Apertura champions Libertad, the richest club in the country. Former MLS star Héctor Villalba (+€0.2m to €2m) has seen his form return after an injury last year. Midfield talent Hugo Martínez (+€0.45 to €1.2m) has also been corrected. Former golden boot winner Sebastián Ferreira, in the meantime, saw his market value drop by €300,000 to €3.7 million after scoring just four goals in 16 games.

The biggest change already happened ahead of the Copa América. Top talent Julio Enciso has been nominated for Paraguay and, as a result, saw his market value grow to €5.5 million. The biggest talent in the country, the forward has made a big jump in his development and, aged just 17, is already the most valuable player in the league.
The Transfermarkt market values are calculated, taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees. The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (you can find the detailed market value definition here).
