Manchester United suffered their first Premier League defeat of the season on Saturday as they fell 1-0 to Aston Villa at Old Trafford.
Kortney Hause scored a late header for Aston Villa before they conceded a penalty for handling Edinson Cavani’s header.
Bruno Fernandes picked up the ball and placed it on the spot, ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo, and blasted the ball well over the bar as United were beaten for the third time in four games and for the second consecutive home game in all competitions.
“Bruno has been excellent and Cristiano is probably the one who has scored the most penalties in world football. It is just a missed opportunity to get a point. “You will be making all these assumptions on the reactions of players,” said Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
“Bruno is such a good penalty taker and you would back him with your mortgage. What I don’t like is how they [Villa players] crowded the referee and the penalty spot. They got what they wanted.”
United’s attention will now turn to Villarreal, who they take on at Old Trafford in the Champions League on Tuesday.
