Journalist Tom Barclay has compared Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma to a young Roy Keane.

Which clubs have shown an interest in Bissouma in recent times?

Since arriving at Brighton three years ago, Bissouma has established himself as a regular in the first-team, making over 100 appearances for the club.

His consistent displays have caught the eye of some of the biggest clubs in the country, and Barclay has claimed that three teams in particular have taken a close look at the 25-year-old.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “The likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, particularly Arsenal, although they obviously signed players elsewhere, Man United have all looked at him.”

What did Barclay say about Bissouma and Keane?

As Barclay mentioned, Manchester United have shown an interest in Bissouma, and The Sun reporter has now drawn comparisons between the Mali international and a former United great, Keane.

Whilst he was quick to point out that Bissouma has not reached the level of Keane yet, he claimed that there are some similarities between Bissouma’s current skillset and the one that Keane possessed when he first burst onto the scene as a youngster.

Barclay said: “I’m not saying he’s anywhere near as good as Roy Keane or ever will be, but you remember, particularly with Keane back in his early days, he was so good going forward as well as defensively. I think a lot of us think of Keane towards the end of his career, which is more of a holding midfielder, but he could do everything and I guess Bissouma is a bit of a throwback in that way.”

Would Bissouma improve Man United’s midfield?

Of course, Keane was a dominant presence in United’s midfield for over a decade, winning seven Premier League titles with the club. The Red Devils could certainly benefit from having someone like him in their side right now.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has some excellent midfielders at his disposal, with the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba widely regarded as two world-class talents. However, the Norwegian coach has struggled to find the right balance in the middle of the park, as Fred, Scott McTominay and Nemanja Matic have failed to convince that they are the long-term solution to United’s midfield problems.

Meanwhile, Bissouma is a well-rounded individual who is capable of breaking up play and then starting attacking moves. This is just the type of player that could be a major asset to United, and move them on from being ‘nearly men’ to a team that can get back to winning major honours if he switched the Amex Stadium for Old Trafford.
