Liverpool suffer setback in the race for Saul

Liverpool have seen a €40million bid rejected by Atletico Madrid for Saul Niguez, according to reports in Spain.
Mundo Deportivoclaim that Liverpool’s opening bid was rejected but did suggest that the player had ‘half a foot in Liverpool’.
Saul is just one of the many names Liverpool have been linked to since Gini Wijnaldum’s departure.
The Reds are said to have a long-standing admiration for the Spain international Saul and Peter O’Rourke has claimed to have spoken to the representatives of the Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez and has confirmed that there is interest from Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.
However, the Reds have suffered a major blow to their transfer plans as Barcelona have now entered the picture.
The Blaugrana have reportedly made an offer which appeals to both club and Diego Simeone.
Antoine Griezmann could also be used as a potential makeweight with Barca keen to get the Frenchman’s salary off their wage books as they scramble to salvage their financial situation.
