“Very good player”

Werder Bremen have financial problems but are hopeful that Josh Sargent could fill the financial void caused by the club’s Bundesliga relegation. Alongside Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Mönchengladbach, Bayer Leverkusen have joined the list of potential clubs interested in the striker.

“Josh is a very good player; I know him well,” Tim Steidten, the head of the Werkself’s scouting department, told the Werder-blog Deichstube.de in an interview. “I was the one who brought him to Bremen.”

Bremen have to generate funds after being relegated to 2. Bundesliga. With a market value of €8 million, Sargent is the second most valuable player in the squad—behind Ludwig Augustinsson (€10m). Sport Bild recently reported that Eintracht Frankfurt are not willing to pay €10 million for the US men’s national team player and that the Eagles have exited negotiations.

Sargent joined Werder in 2018 and has scored 13 goals in 81 games for the club. Should Werder sell him for €10 million, the 16-times national team player will become one of Werder’s top 10 record sales.
