Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is reportedly interested in signing Barcelona defender Jules Kounde to strengthen his defence ahead of the upcoming season. Kounde has reportedly requested a move from Barcelona after just a year with the club. Several Premier League clubs, including Manchester United and Liverpool, were interested in signing the Frenchman before he moved to Barcelona. Kounde reportedly feels “cheated” as he was promised to play the central defender role but was predominantly used as a right-back in the team. Liverpool has reportedly offered a deal to Kounde with Klopp promising to play him in his preferred position and make him a “star” at Anfield. Barcelona president Joan Laporta has set €60m (£52m) as the minimum deal for Kounde, the same amount paid for him by the Catalan giants. Klopp is also reportedly looking to address his midfield in the upcoming transfer window. Liverpool will see the departure of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and James Milner at the end of the season. Jurgen Klopp will consult with Liverpool’s incoming sporting director Jorg Schmadtke for recruitment plans. Liverpool hopes to finalize Schmadtke’s appointment next week as he will be charged with leading the club through an extensive squad change.
