The Round of 16 at the UEFA European Championships is set to commence, and the first day of the knockout stage sees the undefeated Italians meet a relatively strong Austrian squad on Saturday.
Italy, along with Belgium and the Netherlands, went undefeated in group play, finishing atop Group A with ease, not surrendering a single goal in their three matches. They outscored their opponents 7-0, with their 1-0 win over Wales being the lone win by a single margin. Italy was led by 31-year-old Ciro Immobile and Manuel Locatelli, each scoring a pair of goals in only two matches played.

Austria is certainly the underdogs coming into the match, but played well in Group C, finishing second with a 2-1 record. While they did fall to the Netherlands, 2-0, they picked up a convincing win over North Macedonia, and outlasted Ukraine to make it to the knockout stage for the first time ever.
Italy looks to make it to the quarterfinals for the fourth year in a row, in search of making it back to the finals for the fourth time in the team’s history.
