Former Nottingham Forest ace sends transfer advice to Brennan Johnson ahead of January

Former Nottingham Forest striker Nigel Jemson has advised Brennan Johnson to stay at the club a while longer before seeking a move to the Premier League.

Johnson was linked with moves away over the summer, with Brentford and Leicester among the clubs interested.

Nothing materialised before the transfer deadline, though, and he has remained with Forest in the Championship.

The 20-year-old scored 10 goals in 40 League One games last season and has netted once in nine games so far this term.

Premier League clubs may retain an interest in Johnson heading into January, but Jemson does not think the Wales international’s head should be turned just yet.

“I’m not going to turn around and say he’s not good enough for the Premier League because I’m sure he is,” Jemson told This Is Futbol.

“I just think at the moment, for his career, he’s better off playing or being in that first-team squad every game and then trying to go to the next level, and that’s securing a place in a Premier League team.”

Meanwhile, EFL chairman Rick Parry has set out the recommendations he gave the government to narrow the “unbridgeable” wealth gap between the Premier League and the Championship, which he says is “enshrined” within current rules.
