The long pre-season of Fantasy Premier League is underway, with some fantasy managers already hitting double digits for draft Gameweek 1 squads created.

While there’s lots that can change between now and the start of the season on August 13 in terms of transfers, injuries and managerial changes, one thing we do have set in stone are fixtures for the new season.

Here are some tips on how to make the most of that knowledge…

Defining ‘fixture difficulty’

When it comes to analysing fixtures, Fantasy Premier League provide us with their Fixture Difficulty Rating (FDR). At first glance, this looks to be a solid reference point: it’s based on a complex algorithm and takes into account home and away form for each side’s previous six fixtures.

(function(d, s, id){ var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) {return;} js = d.createElement(s); = id; js.src = ""; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs); }(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk')); (function(i,s,o,g,r,a,m){i['GoogleAnalyticsObject']=r;i[r]=i[r]||function(){ (i[r].q=i[r].q||[]).push(arguments)},i[r].l=1*new Date();a=s.createElement(o), m=s.getElementsByTagName(o)[0];a.async=1;a.src=g;m.parentNode.insertBefore(a,m) })(window,document,'script','','ga');
