Fabian Schar reveals he will miss ‘a few months’ as Newcastle defender faces up to lay off

Fabian Schar has revealed his devastation at finding himself ruled out – potentially until the end of the season.

Schar was carried off with a knee injury in the 3-2 win over Southampton.

The Switzerland international is now targeting the Euros for his return but looks unlikely to play a major part in the remainder of United’s season.

It could leave United with the prospect of one empty squad space although the option of adding midfielder Henri Saivet is still available to them.

There have also been calls to bring back Florian Lejeune from Alaves on loan but Steve Bruce has played that option down in recent days.

However, Schar posted on Twitter: “It’s difficult to accept.

“I felt really good on the pitch and the team did well the last few games. Now i will be out for a few months and its gonna be a hard time.

“But I will try everything to be back on the pitch as soon as possible. And my goal will be to be ready for the Euros.”

Newcastle have also confirmed the news in a statement.

Report: West Ham scouting former NUFC youngster

According to The Sun, West Ham boss David Moyes wants his scouts to track Blackburn forward Adam Armstrong ahead of a summer bid.

The report claims Moyes likes the former Newcastle forward and considered and £8million bid in the January transfer window.

However, he wants his scouts to run further checks on him before returning with a £10million offer this summer.

Armstrong has scored 18 goals for Rovers this term and has gone from strength to strength since leaving Newcastle in 2018.

The former under-20 World Cup winner was considered one of the brightest talents to emerge from Newcastle’s academy but struggled to break into the first team setup under Rafa Benitez.

Callum Wilson makes injury vow after Newcastle’s impressive win over Southampton

Callum Wilson has vowed to ‘be back on the pitch ASAP’ after picking up a hamstring injury during Newcastle’s dramatic 3-2 win over Southampton at St James’ Park.

Wilson was replaced in the 36th minute by Joelinton on Saturday after nicking his hamstring running towards the Leazes End.

It is the second time this season the England international has been beset by a similar sort of injury and manager Steve Bruce has confirmed he will face a scan ahead of next Mondays trip to Chelsea.

The 28-year-old’s 10-goal haul has helped drag Newcastle 10 points clear of the relegation zone and the Magpies will be desperately hoping that the injury won’t prove to be too serious.

And Wilson took to his Twitter account to issue an update to supporters.

“Great team performance today,” Wilson said.

“[The] Lads had to dig deep. I will be working hard to get back on the pitch ASAP! Congrats, Joe Willock and Miggy.”
