Arsenal board have already decided whether Mikel Arteta will be sacked or not | Football | Sport

Arsenal’s board have no intention of sacking manager Mikel Arteta, no matter what the result is in today’s north London derby against Tottenham. Arteta was under fire at the start of the season after the Gunners suffered a succession of defeats, but he has begun to turn things around recently.

Arsenal lost their opening three matches of the Premier League season without scoring against Brentford, Chelsea and Manchester City.

Those results immediately put Arteta under the pump, largely due to the fact the club backed their manager by spending around £150million on six new players in the summer transfer window.

The additions of Aaron Ramsdale, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Nuno Tavares, Ben White, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Martin Odegaard did not initially seem to make a difference.

But Arsenal have steadied the ship ahead of Sunday’s all-important derby against Spurs by picking up three successive wins over Norwich and Burnley in the league and AFC Wimbledon in the Carabao Cup.

Those results have made sure of Arteta’s job, according to the Daily Mail, who report that the Arsenal hierarchy are feeling ‘genuinely enthusiastic’ about the manager and his side.

“Every club has to go through different patches, and we went through the patch of the last 18 months with a big covid situation on the back of a lot of instability in the club in the last two or three seasons.

“That’s a difficult mix to suddenly turn things around and build something incredible. But I’m a big believer that this had to happen.

“For this club it had to happen – we had to experience this and that’s going to make us much stronger.

“I can feel what is happening here, and I can feel what is happening with the supporters, with the generation of players that we have here, with everybody that is involved in the organisation. I think it is going to be pretty powerful.”
