Oliver Mintzlaff believes there is now a ‘very, very big’ chance that Konrad Laimer will stay at RB Leipzig this summer. The Roten Bullen manging director has shared his optimism, via quotes by Kicker, now the midfielder has returned to full training after a slight ankle injury.
Laimer had to sit out RB Leipzig’s opening two games of the Bundesliga term with Stuttgart and Cologne. But he is now in contention for his first outing of the campaign when the Red Bull Arena outfit visit Union Berlin on Saturday evening, targeting a first win of the season.
Laimer’s long-term future has also been the source of speculation this summer, as the 25-year-old has entered the final year of his RB Leipzig contract. The 24-cap Austrian has not extended his deal since 2020, giving Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich fuel to eye his move.
But Bayern Munich fell below RB Leipzig’s €30m (£25m) valuation, with their best offer of €22m (£18.5m). Die Roten Bullen can also hold firm in their asking price, with 90min citing Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur with an interest in signing Laimer from RB Leipzig, as well.

With Bayern Munich unwilling to bridge the gap in valuations to beat interest from Arsenal and Tottenham, Mintzlaff is growing in confidence that Laimer will now stay at RB Leipzig.
“I’m assuming that Conny will stay,” Mintzlaff said. “The tendency is very, very big that he stays with us. We want to keep our top performers, and Conny is an incredible performer.”
Laimer moved to Saxony from RB Salzburg for €6m (£5m) in 2017 and has gone on to make 162 appearances. The Austrian has also scored 11 goals and laid on 18 assists from the Red Bull Arena engine room. While his senior international debut arrived during June 2019.
RB Leipzig head coach Domenico Tedesco will hope Laimer staying into the final year of his current contract proves beneficial. The midfielder offered his most prolific Bundesliga term yet last season with four goals, after missing almost the full term prior with an ankle injury.
