Tottenham chairman has disagreements regarding Ajax deal for Steven Bergwijn

Daniel Levy has disagreements with Ajax deal for Tottenham Hotspur forward Steven Bergwijn

Steven Bergwijn was close to moving away from Tottenham Hotspur to Ajax but Daniel Levy has disagreements with certain aspects of the deal, according to Mike Verweij via @TheEuropeanLad on Twitter (h/t football.london).

The Dutch club have agreed to a fee with the North London side for the 24-year-old, but the club’s chairman has an issue with the structure of the deal, such as the number of instalments and the percentage of the next sale. It remains to be seen how the negotiations now unfold.

Bergwijn joined the club two and a half years back and is looking to depart the club. The Dutchman hasn’t been able to carve out a place for himself in the squad. With the arrival of Antonio Conte, chances in the team have been scarce.

Dejan Kulusevski arrived in the January transfer window and made an immediate impact. The trust of the Italian manager was key in the Swedish national’s fast start in the team, playing 20 games, scoring eight and assisting five goals.

Bergwijn isn’t trusted at Spurs?

That trust has been missing when it has come to Bergwijn’s inclusion in the team under various managers. In his time in North London, the forward has appeared 83 times for the club. Last season the 24-year-old started just eight games.

Steven Bergwijn has found game time hard to come by at Tottenham.

More game time and influence in the team seems unlikely, as Conte now has even more options up front. Richarlison and Ivan Perisic signed for the club this summer and will look to compete for a place in the starting XI. Kulusevski has already created a rapport in the team and is ahead in the pecking order.

While having a player like the Dutch forward in the squad isn’t a bad thing, fans will feel it’ll be best if the player leaves. An unhappy player in the squad is something Spurs will want to avoid for next season as it’ll take focus away from the pitch and may affect the overall morale of the team.
