Where Newcastle would sit in the Premier League table without VAR

The video assistant referees were introduced to the Premier League at the start of the 2019-20 campaign and have been the subject of much debate ever since.

While it has helped spot fouls and handballs that the referee may otherwise have missed, it has also been on the end of plenty of criticism due to some questionable decisions.

Newcastle United have been one of the most affected clubs by VAR this season, having three penalty decisions overturned against them, with only one overturned decision going in their favour.

Goals, penalties and red card are all subject to VAR with over 100 incidents leading to an intervention from Stockley Park so far in the Premier League this season.

Using ESPN data, we have looked at how VAR has affected every result in the Premier League this season – and worked out how the table would look without the involvement of the video technology.
