Juventus paid £68m to sign the 22-year-old from Ajax when he was just 19, after he shone for the Dutch giants in the 2018/19 Champions League.
De Ligt could’ve even won the tournament, but he and Ajax crashed out at the hands of Lucas Moura with seconds remaining in the semi-final.
La Repubblica‘s update comes after Calciomercato initially claimed that Antonio Conte wanted to bring the 33-cap Netherlands international to north London.
So far this season, De Ligt has shone for Juventus, making 23 appearances in all competitions.
Matthijs de Ligt would be a phenomenal signing for Tottenham
In our view, this would arguably be the best signing Tottenham have made for many, many years.
De Ligt is one of the best centre-backs in Europe – even at 22 – and already boasts a wealth of experience in the Champions League.
The Dutchman has made 27 appearances in Europe’s greatest club competition.
De Ligt is also a huge character for his age, and it’s clear for all to see that he’s a natural leader.
Just take a look at this speech he delivered to 100,000 Ajax fans at the age of 19 – the future is seriously bright for the Juventus No.4, to say the least.

Tottenham definitely need reinforcements at centre-back, but if they pulled this deal off, it would be hugely surprising.
Just imagine a centre-back pairing of Cristian Romero and De Ligt – it would be utterly formidable.
Keep an eye on this saga – if Daniel Levy decides to meet the asking price, who knows what could happen.
