Mikel Arteta already knows three more Serie A targets after signing Dusan Vlahovic for Arsenal

Arsenal look to be entering a fierce battle for the top four in the Premier League this season and Mikel Arteta will be in search of reinforcements to stave off the threat of their rivals for Champions League football.

There appears to be a desire to spend more money on transfer deals at the Emirates Stadium, with Arteta challenging chairman Josh Kroenke to fulfil transfer promises in recent days.

Technical director Edu along with Arteta will be hoping for movement soon though, with a top-four place on the line and along with that the chance to return to the riches of the Champions League.

To fulfil their goals, those in charge will need to scout carefully and here is a list of four players from Serie A who could fit the bill at Arsenal.

Franck Kessie (AC Milan)

Franck Kessie is a technically gifted and defensively sound central midfielder who has played for AC Milan for the last four seasons, becoming a mainstay in their midfield.

He has started more than 33 games in each of the past four seasons he has played in Italy meaning that he can be relied upon to avoid injury, a problem for Arsenal midfielders in recent years..

The Ivorian has six months left on his contract at the San Siro, meaning that he can be approached now for a prospective move in the summer.

Milan currently sit second in Serie A behind arch-rivals Inter and this could mean that the the 52-times capped international could be tempted to stay, but Europe’s top clubs are likely to try their luck with signing the elite midfielder.

Dusan Vlahovic (Fiorentina)

With rumours that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could be leaving the Emirates Stadium either this month or in the summer, Arteta will be on the lookout for a new striker and will be tempted by Dusan Vlahovic.

Much has been said of the Fiorentina striker’s next move with a host of European clubs looking at the striker, who has been capped 14 times by Serbia, scoring seven times.

The 21-year-old has scored 16 goals in 20 Serie A games this season, marking him out as one of the top targets for clubs around Europe, with Tottenham looking to rival Arsenal for the player’s signature.

football.london understands Arsenal are interested in Vlahovic, who would be able to offer a starting place with doubts persisting around both Alexandre Lacazette and Aubameyang’s futures in north London,

The Gunners are favourites to sign the 6ft2ins Serb, although his personal terms could prove a stumbling block to any move going forwards.

Fabián Ruiz (Napoli)

Further central-midfield reinforcements are needed at the Emirates Stadium with the position having been an area of weakness for a number of years

One name that many might not be familiar with is Napoli’s Fabian Ruiz – the left-footed midfielder boasting an impressive reputation having played Champions League football for a number of years now.

He has started at least 29 games per season for the past four campaigns and this will be a bonus for Arteta, who has often struggled with key players being out at important moments.

Ruiz is a dynamic and effective ball carrier, ranking highly among his peers for ball progressions and he has scored 16 non-penalty goals and registered 13 assists across four seasons in Serie A from midfield.

Ismael Bennacer (AC Milan)

Ismael Bennacer is a player with a similar profile to Ruiz, currently performing well in a Milan side who are looking like a good side this season, sitting second behind Inter.

Unfortunately for Arsenal and any other potential suitors is the fact that he has two years remaining on his current deal at San Siro, meaning that any deal for the 24-year-old would be an expensive one.

He is a progressive passer, placing top of Serie A for progressive passes per 90 this season amongst all players and places top in Serie A for completed dribbles per 90 this season amongst midfielders who have played at least 500 minutes.

This impressive statistical profile will appeal to those in power at the Emirates Stadium, meaning that the Algerian could be an outside bet for a move to north London in the future.
