Cristiano Ronaldo’s winning mentality on show in All or Nothing documentary as the Manchester United forward predicts 3-0 win for Juventus against Lionel Messi’s Barcelona
One of the many reasons that makes Cristiano Ronaldo an elite footballer is his mentality irrespective of who he plays against.
In a clip from Amazon’s All or Nothing documentary, which focuses on Juventus, forward – then playing his trade in Serie A – showcased how confident he was when coming up against a Barcelona side that contained Lionel Messi at the time.
Juve’s former Chief Football Officer Fabio Paratici was heard speaking to former player and now Vice Chairman Pavel Nedved about the upcoming Champions League game in December 2020.
“We can’t win 3-0 against Barcelona” Nedved said to Paratici, to which came the response: “Cristiano said we can.”
Clearly Ronaldo installed a huge amount of belief into the squad when they travelled to the Camp Nou as they trounced Messi’s former side 3-0.
Inevitably, he found the net twice in that match either side of a Weston McKennie strike.
Unfortunately for the Portuguese superstar and his teammates, though, that game did not prove to be significant.
In the round of 16, they faced Porto and were sent out of the tournament on away goals.
The aftermath highlighted Ronaldo’s anger and sadness as the clip showed him in tears at full time in the dressing room.
The documentary follows Juventus’ 2020/21 season – much like Tottenham and Man City have had – which ended with Ronaldo leaving the club at the end of the campaign.
Since leaving the club in the summer to return to the Red Devils things haven’t exactly fared better for either party.
The ‘Old Lady’ are dwindling in midtable in Serie A, 11 points behind leaders Napoli and were recently demolished by Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea in the Champions League.
Meanwhile, Ronaldo’s Man United are similarly struggling in the Premier League but can be comforted knowing they have qualified for the last-16 of the Champions League as group winners.
